About DLCC

Daniel's Legacy Computer Collections is my project of preserving a part of legacy computer history.

My collections are comprised of 4 main categories:

💾  Legacy computer software spanning several computing platforms (Commodore, CP/M, DOS, Linux, Macintosh, Windows, and more)
💻  Legacy computer systems and related devices that are 5 years or older (PCs, Macs, laptops, PDAs, tablets, and more)
🌎  "Computer artifacts" which is a "collection of collections" (media, promotional items, publications, and more)
📸  Digital cameras from the 1990's

The legacy software I preserve includes:

💿  PC-based software from Windows 10 back *
💿  Mac-based software from macOS 15.0 Sequoia back *
💾  Other legacy software from other computer platforms 5 years or older *

* 🚫  I do not preserve anything adult-oriented (software, games, images).
* 🚫  I do not preserve incomplete or non-functional software.
* 🚫  I do not preserve illegal copies or software to conduct illegal activities.

I respect and obey all copyright laws.

About Daniel

Being an enthusiast of old computer technology, in 1999 I started a project that, originally, was intended to preserve legacy computer software from the 20th Century. I began collecting old software from various computer platforms.

Also, in 1999, I created my first website for this project. It was called "Dan's 20th Century Abandonware." Later, it also briefly existed as "The 20th Century Software Preservation Archive" before returning once again to D2CA.

As my project evolved and changed, it was apparent there was much early 21st Century software that was also worth preserving. It also became apparent the term "abandonware" was used on the Internet frequently for distributing illegal old software still under copyright protection. I knew I was going to have to change the scope and definition of my project.

As time passed, and I also began to preserve 21st Century software and computer-related items, I changed the name of my project to "Daniel's Legacy Computer Collections." It separated me from the "abandonware" stigma, ended the time constraint, and more accurately described my project, which incorporated more than just legacy software.

From the beginning, I have been the only person collecting, digitally and physically preserving, and maintaining the various collections here at DLCC. I am also the only person who originally created and has maintained the DLCC website.

DLCC offline in 2023 & 2024

For the first time since September 16, 1999, the DLCC website was completely offline from July 12, 2023 to December 13, 2024.

For nearly 24 years, my DLCC website had been on the Web for all to enjoy. From the beginning, I have been the sole person funding DLCC's existance. DLCC is one of the few, if not the ONLY website on the Internet that has absolutely NO ads. DLCC has had no other source of funding whatsoever.

In the spring of 2023, I began to have issues with the Web hosting service I was using (different from the one I have now). In addition to the issues, the hosting service more than tripled the cost of my next renewal. This was beyond my ability to afford, so I had no choice but to let that subscription expire. On July 12, 2023, I removed every file and folder of my DLCC website from my hosting service. On April 9, 2024, the domain I was using at the time also expired. My hosting subscription expired on January 11, 2025.

But on December 13, 2024, I was able to find a new and affordable hosting service for DLCC. My website has returned to the Web once again with a new domain name.

Special Appreciation for the Generous Donors To DLCC Thank you for donating to DLCC!

When I founded DLCC, I never expected such a generous outpouring of donations.

I didn't expect to be contacted by people and businesses wishing to donate their legacy computer software, hardware, and computer-related items to my preservation project.

Thanks to these kind people, I have been able to collect and preserve many more legacy computer items than I would have ever been able to find on my own.

My heartfelt gratitude and appreciation goes out to each and every person who has donated their portion of computer history to DLCC. You have helped to make these collections what they are today. Thank you very much!
